Generation Common Good Welcomes Inaugural Student Organizing Fellows, Jasmine Lewis and Faith Deschamps
Washington, D.C. — October 29, 2024 — Generation Common Good is thrilled to announce the appointment of Jasmine Lewis and Faith Deschamps as the organization’s first-ever Student Organizing Fellows. Both fellows bring a wealth of experience in social advocacy and community empowerment, positioning them as pivotal leaders in advancing Generation Common Good’s mission of fostering transformative change on campuses and within communities across the nation.
Jasmine Lewis, a multi-intentional artist and social change vanguard, has dedicated her life to creating a path toward liberation through radical imagination and storytelling. Known as a “Poetic Warrior,” Jasmine has collaborated with organizations like Made By Us and PEN America to support youth-led futures and free expression. She is also the founder of TALMBAT, a multimedia collective focused on amplifying underserved voices, and co-creator of Black Southern Tech Studies, which honors the Black US South as a foundational source of technological innovation and cultural guidance. Jasmine brings her talents as an artist, scholar, and community visionary to her fellowship with Generation Common Good, where she will continue her mission of crafting new worlds that reflect the values of justice and inclusivity.
Faith Deschamps, a recent graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and now a Ph.D. student at Ohio State University, has a robust background in organizing and interdisciplinary scholarship. Faith served as an executive board member of Horizons International and the Black Student Union and chaired the Africana and Gender Identity Studies Student Board at Ohio Wesleyan. She has also contributed her skills to the Chaplain's Office and the Dean’s Council, among other leadership roles. With a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, Faith will engage Ohio State students in meaningful dialogues and initiatives, reinforcing Generation Common Good’s vision of equitable, community-centered transformation.
Jasmine Banks, founder of Generation Common Good, shared her excitement for the fellows’ arrival, saying, “The leadership of Black young women like Jasmine and Faith is the blueprint for creating transformative change. They’re not just leading on their campuses; they’re setting new standards for what it means to build empowered, visionary communities. With them, Generation Common Good is taking a bold step forward in reimagining the future through purpose-driven action and solidarity.”
Through this fellowship, Jasmine and Faith will work alongside Generation Common Good’s network of changemakers, inspiring their peers and advancing strategic campaigns focused on social and environmental justice. Both fellows exemplify the spirit of community-centered leadership and serve as powerful advocates for a just, inclusive, and liberated future.
